Narrative Life to me was the most interesting out of the two readings that we had to do. I enjoyed reading about how Glan first fell in love with super heroes and comic books and how they “grew” with him throughout his life. The way in which he described how he was hit by a car and all of the time he spent in the hospital made me feel like I was there at the time. I could picture the young boy who became Glan’s new “roommate” and could picture the two of them sitting in their hospital beds talking about comic books. When he mentioned that the boy left his comic book collection to him because the boy was going home, I knew something was wrong with the young boy. I immediately made an “aw” sound out loud as soon as the article mentioned that the young boy had leukemia and was sent home to spend his last days with his family. I enjoyed this whole reading, especially the ending how he happened to come across two young boys and a box of comic books at a yard sale. I loved the fact that he gave the children the money to buy all of the comic books since that’s how his love of comic books had began, from someone else giving him a box.

As for Life and Native Hill, I actually had a hard time getting into the reading and found myself looking around my room for other ways to distract myself from reading it. It was not until the very end of the reading that I found myself actually enjoying it. The last few paragraphs where the author is describing the way that the leaves were falling on top of their body allowed me to see how the author was seeing the scenery. The way in which the words were chosen to describe the leaves falling left a picture image of the leaves falling from the trees. Although I wasn’t crazy about the writing itself, I did enjoy the descriptive use of words that the author used throughout their writing.
